Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse Program My Sisters’ Place offers a holistic approach to the many and varied needs of domestic violence victims. At MSP, we work with each victim to develop a plan that will free her from the violence, taking her entire life situation into account and using all of the programs and services available. In working with victims, we have learned that there are a number of ways in which victimization and chemical dependency are related. It is therefore increasingly important to evaluate this intersection in order to develop strategies for providing assistance to those whose lives are impacted by these two devastating problems. In response, My Sisters’ Place has developed the Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse program. This 8 to 10 week program, which is run by our Substance Abuse Coordinator, and provides both prevention and support services to participants. The Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse Program operates in treatment facilities, prisons, and correctional facilities. Through writing exercises, discussion groups and presentations, participants are offered an open forum to discuss and explore their own experiences with intimate partner violence. Participants who reveal that they have been the victim of domestic violence are referred to counselors and support groups at My Sisters' Place. |
