On Thursday, March 15, 2007, My Sisters’ Place (MSP) celebrated the 10th anniversary of our Legal Center at a Spring Benefit at the Hilton Rye Town.
In response to the urgent need for specialized, high-quality legal services for victims of domestic violence, My Sisters’ Place established their Legal Center in 1997. Currently, the Legal Center is comprised of three components: Family Law Services, the Immigration Unit, and Advocacy Services.
In addition to celebrating our successes, we were privileged to have guest speaker, Anita Hill: teacher, attorney, speaker, researcher and writer. A professor of social policy, law, and women's studies at Brandeis University at the Heller School for Social Policy, she has earned international prominence as an authority on race and gender issues. Anita spoke eloquently about making sure to provide opportunities for girls and women to achieve, and to encourage the girls and women in our lives to take those opportunities.
MSP was also proud to honor Julie Domonkos, Esq,. In addition to being the former Executive Director of My Sisters' Place, Ms. Domonkos is co-founder/chair of the Lawyers Committee Against Domestic Violence and co-editor of the “Lawyer’s Manual on Domestic Violence.” She received the New Rochelle “Women of Excellence Award” in 2003. A frequent writer and lecturer in Westchester, Ms. Domonkos is a public voice advocating for equality and justice for victims of domestic violence. |
